10-Session Series change
The hallmark of Rolfing Structural Integration is Dr. Ida P. Rolf's standardized “recipe” known as the Ten-Series, the goal of which is to systematically balance and optimize both the structure (shape) and function (movement) of the entire body over the course of ten Rolfing sessions. Each session focuses on freeing restrictions or holdings trapped in a particular region or layer of the body. The Rolfing practitioner also maintains a holistic view of the client’s entire system during each session, thus ensuring the transformational process evolves in a comfortable and harmonious way.

Rolfing sessions typically run 90 minutes in duration. Please allow time for arrival, departure and pre and post-session structural assessment. Though there are exceptions, the recommended scheduling interval between sessions in a series is 1-3 weeks apart. If you know your schedule, it may be best to book these sessions well in advance to ensure availability.

There are natural "breaks" in a Ten-series for processing time and integration. Scheduling intervals can be longer and may be recommended after session 3, after session 5, after session 7, and even after session 10.

*Please be prepared to work in your underwear, bra and underwear or two-piece swimwear (for the ladies). Boxer shorts, thongs and sheer garments are not encouraged. Please let me know if you would like to wear something different and we can discuss comfortable options!

The Ten Series can be divided into three distinct units:

Sessions 1-3 the “sleeve” sessions: strive to loosen and balance surface layers of connective tissue. Specifically, the first session is devoted to enhancing the quality of breath with work on the arms, ribcage and diaphragm. Opening is also started along the upper leg, hamstrings, neck and spine. The second session helps give the body a stable foundation by balancing the foot and muscles of the lower leg. The third session typically involves a “side view” for an understanding of how the head, shoulder girdle, and hips are positionally related to one another when standing under the influence of gravity. Then, the body is addressed within the context of this new vision.

Sessions 4-7 the “core” sessions: examine terrain found between the bottom of the pelvis and top of the head. The idea of core also includes the deep tissue of the legs for its role in support. Session four begins this journey, its territory extends from the inside arch of the foot and up the leg, to the bottom of the pelvis. The fifth session is concerned with balancing surface and deep abdominal muscles to the curve of the back. Session six seeks to enlist more support and moment from the legs, pelvis and lower back, while the seventh session turns its sole attention to the neck and head.

Sessions 8-10 the “integration” sessions: provide an opportunity for the practitioner to blend previously established advancements, and ones yet to be made, into the body in a way that encourages smooth movement and natural coordination. During sessions eight and nine, the practitioner is free to decide how best to achieve this integration, as the protocol is unique for each individual. The tenth and final session is also one of integration, but more importantly, serves to inspire a sense of order and balance. Once completed, the wisdom of the Rolfing Ten Series will drive and support the body with health for years to come.

*My schedule works best for those that can schedule online appointments 2-3 months in advance. Can't wait? Please contact my suitemate, David Satarino, Certified Rolfer at (512) 785-8448 or my colleagues Susannah Cummins, LMT at www.rolfmethodaustin.com, or Emily Kolb, Certified Rolfer at www.emilykolbrolfing.com for sooner availability and let them know that I referred you.
    • Follow-up Rolfing Session
  • Rolfing Series

The benefits of Rolfing are cumulative and best experienced in a series! The recommended scheduling interval between sessions in a series is 1-3 weeks apart. If you know your schedule, it is best to book sessions well in advance to ensure availability as I am typically booked 2-3 months in advance. (Note: A series of sessions spaced at intervals may be more profoundly therapeutic than a single session, which may only address a single issue or complaint.)
    • 3-Session Series

Immediate changes can be achieved in as little as one session of Rolfing SI, so after 3 sessions most people will know if Rolfing is going to produce the results they are looking for. In 3 sessions, we will work together on addressing specific areas of postural concern, areas of tension or pain, and how it relates to the whole body for the goals you wish to achieve.

    • 5-Session Series
A 5-session series allows for an even deeper (horizontal and vertical) approach to treat the body as a whole, address multiple issues, and establish a solid structural foundation.
